Workshops & facilitation

Workshops

Toby offers workshops that aim to give students the skills they need to go out into the world and make photographs as opposed to simply taking snaps. The workshops are based on over 30 years of practical experience. Each session explores a practical skill, an ethical or technical concept and a look at other photographers’ works, both classical and modern. The emphasis is on doing. Students are given tasks to work on between sessions, with a review of their work each week. The course ends with an exhibition and presentation of a photobook containing their best photographs.

These workshops are suitable for teenagers or adults who want to elevate their confidence and understanding of the process of making images. Students may use their own cameras or their phones. The offer is based around eight 2-hour sessions but can be adapted to the specific needs of your organisation.

"Toby designed and delivered our Young Makers photography project for young people aged 14 - 18 this Spring. Toby introduced participants to the fundamentals of photography through a series of weekly workshops, helping them develop both technical skills and creative confidence. His sessions were enriched by showcasing a wide range of professional photographers, exposing young people to a range of different styles and techniques. He was supportive throughout and encouraged the group to be curious and capture their personal interests. As a collaborator, Toby was highly communicative and collaborative, and we look forward to working with him again in future."
